About
Dedicated to your child's success in French

Lois Maskiell
I am an experienced French tutor, providing French tuition for high school and university students, including those studying the IB, HSC, and VCE programmes, as well as for the DELF examinations.
Having learned French as an anglophone myself, I understand first-hand the challenges of mastering a new language and the strategies that make success achievable. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Languages and a Master of Journalism from Monash University, and have worked as a journalist and media advisor, including at the Embassy of France in Australia. This professional background allows me to bring both expertise and meaningful cultural insight to my teaching.
My approach combines academic rigour with structured, thoughtful instruction. Beyond improving results, I help students develop confidence, independence, and a genuine appreciation for the French language. I work best with motivated students and families who value excellence and a considered, results-driven approach to learning.
My philosophy
Learning French is never one-size-fits-all. Each student approaches the language with different strengths, goals, and ways of learning. My teaching combines clear grammatical foundations with conversation, reading, writing, and listening practice, all carefully adapted to the needs of the individual.
Instruction is aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB), the Higher School Certificate (HSC), and the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), while also drawing on international standards such as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and DELF examinations.

The difference your child will experience
Lois is an excellent tutor who provides well-structured lessons with cultural insights as to the real use of French, so that you sound like a native speaker and not a dictionary. She is goal-oriented so students achieve great results.
