The French Language Studio offers online French tutoring to high school students across Australia and New Zealand, with a strong focus on International Baccalaureate (IB), Higher School Certificate (HSC), Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), and Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française (DELF) exam preparation.
Led by experienced French tutor Lois Maskiell, the studio provides motivated students with highly personalised lessons designed to help them achieve excellence in their academic pursuits. Lois has a background in languages, journalism, and communications, including at leading institutes such as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), The Australian Financial Review, and the Embassy of France in Australia. This experience allows her to bring both academic expertise and real-world knowledge to every French lesson.
Lois holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in French Studies from Monash University in Australia, and a DALF C1 diploma (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française), which is a lifelong diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education. The DALF certifies advanced, autonomous French language proficiency for academic and professional use, and is the standard requirement for admission into French universities.
Lois’s teaching at The French Language Studio is structured yet supportive, helping students progress step by step while developing independent thinking and clear expression. Each class is tailored to the IB, HSC, VCE and DELF requirements, focusing on exam structure and content, exam techniques, grammar, and confident expression in French. Students are guided through grammar presentations with quizzes to test their understanding. Lois works with curriculum-based text books by major educational publishers, such as Hodder Education, Hachette and Didier. She also supplements her lessons with carefully selected multimedia content, including songs, interviews and news articles to help students learn using research-backed teaching methods.
